Civil Rights Roundtable
Central Questions to Consider:
What are the basic civil rights that should be guaranteed to citizens?
Who should be involved in securing these rights?
And, through what methods (protest, legislation, court decision, citizen action, etc.) should those rights best be secured?

The Task:
You will choose--as either a pair or an individual--a civil rights leader from one of these different power movements. Your job will be to research the leader’s personal background, his/her contributions to the particular power struggle, and specific legislation or civil rights he/she would like guaranteed in law. It would also be useful in your studies to see who (or which group) your person worked with, admired, modeled their struggle after, or even opposed. We will spend two days in class and one day in the library researching, but outside research may be required to complete the task.
