What is a style guide?

All fields of study have had to agree on certain standards for their written publications. When their is a constant format writers can rely on certain conventions to make their writing better and have their sources easily identified. APA stands for American Psychological Association--they define their style guide as follows:

APA (American Psychological Association) "style is most commonly used to cite sources within the social sciences. This resource, revised according to the 6
th edition, second printing of the APA manual, offers examples for the general format of APA research papers, in-text citations, endnotes/footnotes, and the reference page". For more information, please consult the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, (6th ed., 2nd printing).

This is an example of what an APA paper should look like.  Notice the heading and the header, which includes a page number. Your essay

should be typed, double-spaced on standard-sized paper (8.5" x 11") with 1" margins on all sides. You should use a clear font that is highly

readable. APA recommends using 12 pt. Times New Roman font.  Your margins should be 1 inch and the entire paper should be double spaced.

The Works Cited should be on the very last page (by itself) and will be double spaced as well.
