Step 1: Choose 1 TOPIC
  • Ocean acidification pg. 539
  • Deforestation pg. 577
  • Overfishing pg. 559
  • Water pollution pg. 587
  • Air pollution pg. 540
  • Introduced invasive species pg. 556
  • Soil erosion pg. 579
  • Habitat fragmentation pg. 552

Step 2: Research your topic, starting with the page number of your Living Earth text. Look for connections to other topics learned over the year. Research possible solutions to the human impact. Include ALL parts below.
  1. Summarize what you learned from your research on slide #1 of  the template.  Do NOT copy/paste, but include information that you have researched and written in your own words.
  2. You must answer ONE of these key questions below:
    • How is your topic a selective pressure to a certain population? Does natural selection come into play here?
    • How is your topic a threat to biodiversity?
    • How does your topic affect the carbon cycle?
    • What are the long term effects of your topic? (on the geologic timescale)
    • How have organisms responded to your topic on a genetic level (allele frequencies, gene pools, genotypes, mutations, etc.)?
  3. Research possible solutions to the negative human impacts.
    • How do any of the 4 Sustainable Contra Costa Actions that you completed relate to your topic? (Post your selfies & describe).
    • Sources of information-scroll down to see our databases or click HERE.  Consider how reputable the sources are.  Make sure you have researched FACTS come from sources that you can trust.
Step 3: Create your own PSA about how to affect positive environmental change on Slide #2
    • PSA - with one fact or statistic
    • Bold, colorful, appropriate visuals
    • Is short and includes at least ONE FACT from a reputable source
    • Goal is to change attitudes or behavior
    • Asks the audience to make REALISTIC action steps
Step 4: During the final:  You will share and respond to your classmate’s PSA in a Break Out rooms and participate in a Canvas discussion. Be prepared to make thoughtful observations and ask and answer questions.
